What's your favourite element? (Discussion)

There are so many elements in the world! But which one is the best?

Is it the oxygen we breathe? Carbon, which is used in so many thing? Gold, the shiny metal? Mercury, the cool liquid? Nitrogen, just because it sounds cool? Or one of the obscure elements at the bottom of the table with the cool names, like Xenon?

Choose your element (with good reason)!

    He : Helium!

    1. Because the element symbol He is actually very similar to the sound you will make if you try to suck in the gas from a balloon. Many times “he he he” has escaped from my mouth and others that have tried this funny trick!

    2. Because it creates a great attraction in the form of floating balloons that look great at entertaining events.

My favourite element is Ne, Neon.

Neon is just cool. It’s a noble gas, which means it’s cooler than the other regular elements. It’s pretty rare on Earth even though it’s abundant throughout the universe, which is a cool fact. It’s used in neon signs and lights, with a cool orange glow. Neon is awesome.

Other favourites- O (Oxygen is pretty plain, but it has a cool letter as a symbol), and Zn (Zinc, which rocks).

I don’t think we really have to care about necessity all that much in this discussion… I mean, our oxygen and carbon aren’t going to go anywhere soon due to the law of conservation of mass. On the contrary, we probably have too much carbon due to pollution which is not a very good thing.

I do agree that these elements are extremely abundant and are part of pretty much all useful compounds in real life (including the human body)... but gold and silver look a lot better, and in our world (sadly, some may say) looks count for a lot.

My favorite element … ! Its Ca: Calcium.

Calcium is the most abundent metal ion in the human body (1.5%). It is important for the production of skelital structures such as bones & teeth. A small quantity of Calcium iis present in the blood and soft tissues. It is needed for nerve and muscle functions. Ca helps in the regulation of heart beats and it is essential for blood coagulation.

Plenty of Ca is required during pregnency and lactation.
